Membership in the Dante Society is open to everyone. While many of our members are professional academics who work as faculty members at colleges and universities, others are high school teachers, or independent scholars, or students, or people who just love reading Dante and want to connect with others who share their passion and find resources to help them learn more about Dante's life, works, and cultural legacy.
Membership in the Dante Society provides many benefits. All members receive a print copy of our annual Dante Studies journal as well as free electronic access to the current issue and all issues published since 2015. Members are also invited to subscribe to our electronic mailing list to receive announcements about the Society's activities and share news about other Dante-related events. In addition, members have access to a searchable online membership directory to help them find and contact other members directly. Members can also vote in annual elections and serve on committees (see our Society by-laws for more information). Only current members are eligible to be invited to participate as panelists and presenters at sessions sponsored by the Dante Society at the annual meetings of other organizations, including the International Conference on Medieval Studies, Renaissance Society of America, and Modern Language Association (see the "Meetings and Events" section of this website for more information. Finally, but not less importantly, annual membership helps to sustain the ongoing mission of the Society and its expanding outreach efforts by providing critical financial support.
Whether registering for the first time or renewing your membership, please consider which category from the list below most appropriately reflects your status and desired affiliation. These same categories and annual dues rates are listed on the online membership form, linked below.
For an additional $10, members in the above categories can add a spouse or partner as a secondary joint member for an additional $10 per year. Secondary joint members must reside at the same address and only one copy of Dante Studies will be mailed to the address. Secondary joint members may cast separate ballots in elections.
Members who reside outside the United States must pay an additional $10 to cover international postage and handling. This amount is automatically added to membership dues during the "checkout" process for online payments.
Plan on remaining a member of the Society for many years? Consider becoming a life member by making a one-time payment of $1,265, commemorating the year of Dante's birth.
Want to provide extra support for the Society this year? All contributions, except for annual membership dues, which support your subscription to Dante Studies, are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law. Optional contributions may be made when registering or renewing your membership or via our online donation form at any time.
Joining or renewing your membership is easy. Just follow the links below to complete or update your profile, pay dues, or make an additional tax-deductible gift to the Society. The membership year runs from January 1 through December 31. Please note that all online payments are made using a secure third-party site. Payment receipts and credit card charges will be listed as originating from "Johns Hopkins University Press" (not the Dante Society of America).
